Hawks in the pink for vital clash with Blaze

11 Nov, 2008 03:00 AM
The Wollongong Hawks are inviting fans to think pink when they host the Gold Coast Blaze on Friday night at WIN Entertainment Centre.

As part of the Hawks' pledge to focus on health, the National Breast Cancer Foundation will be selling a variety of pink merchandise at the game.

The foundation is also staging a raffle in conjunction with Hawks sponsor ahm on the night to raise money for breast cancer research, while NRG Studios will put on a pink-themed half-time dance show.

"All proceeds on the evening will go to continuing the support for breast cancer research and to find a cure for a disease that has touched many Australians and people around the world," Dr Margaret Gardiner said.

"I am thrilled that the Hawks have committed to supporting the cause. It is wonderful that we can combine sport and families, and all come together with one message."

While breast cancer research will be the main focus on Friday, the Hawks are also trying to raise awareness for other health issues.

"As a club we're very proud to be involved in such a great cause. Anything we can do as a club to support our community is great," Wollongong coach Eric Cooks said.

"The whole team are also growing beards to support men's prostate health and depression."

Team captain Mat Campbell called on Hawks supporters to get behind the cause.

"We'll also be staying on court after the game for a special on-court signing," Campbell said. "The whole team will be available for autographs and a chat."

The fifth-placed Hawks have won their last two games and aim to move back into fourth by beating the Blaze. Tickets are available at ticketek.com or by phoning 132 849.
