THE Wollongong Hawks flew in to Adelaide yesterday afternoon looking to make it two pre-season basketball wins in three days against the 36ers.
On Thursday night in Port Lincoln the Hawks recorded a 118-111 win over the re-tooled Adelaide outfit which shows promise Wollongong fans in the upcoming National Basketball League season.
Coach Eric Cooks said yesterday he was pleased by the win, which was made all the more sweet because the Hawks were still under-manned without injured big man Larry Davidson and Boomer Glen Saville and guard Rhys Martin.
"It was definitely a very good win for us, because they are a quality side," Cooks said.
"We were without Larry and Sav so we were still a little under-manned and that made the win so much sweeter I guess."
Forward Cameron Tragardh led the Hawks scoring with 27 points followed by Dusty Rychart (26) and Mat Campbell (25).
The Hawks took development players James Quinn and Tim Labka but Cooks stuck mainly to his contracted players for the bulk of the court time.
"All of the core guys scored in double figures so the offense was pleasing but we still have some work to do on the defensive end, 111 is too many points to give up."
Saville was to have a run through with his new team mates yesterday afternoon before suiting up for tonight's game.
Adelaide, under first year head coach Scott Ninnis, will be showing off new import Mark Tyndale and young guard Aaron Bruce to the home crowd at the Pasadena Sports centre.
The game will tip off at 7.30pm.
