Teams in next season's NewNBL will be heavily pursuing soon-to-be available Hawks star Glen Saville.
But it will probably take a very attractive offer to lure the do-it-all forward away from Wollongong.
Saville's wife Angela runs a highly successful fitness training business and is keen to stay put in her home town.
"Ange is really driven by it and committed to it and she really enjoys it," Saville said.
"The business is going quite well and it's fantastic because it's great for our future.
"So that would make it difficult if I had to go somewhere else to play."
Saville said the Hawks were anything but surprised that the club didn't have the money to apply for a spot in the revamped competition.
"As a team, we tried to put that aside and not worry about the fact that we had a feeling it would happen," he said.
"We understood there would be certain monetary stipulations and it made things very difficult.
"Teams are losing enough money as it is and yet the league has upped the ante.
"I can see why they're doing it, if it protects the players.
"On one hand it looks after the players, but on the other hand it puts you in a situation where the Hawks can't survive anymore, and that's obviously very disappointing."
