Cricket Illawarra officials will issue a "please explain" to selectors after the farcical omission of Graeme Batty from the NSW Country side.
Batty dominated at last weekend's country championships, scoring 51, 68 and 104 in the final against Newcastle, for which he was named player of the match.
Despite the standout performances Batty was left out of the country team.
Cricket Illawarra chairman of selectors Paul Brockley has written to Country Cricket NSW questioning its decision.
"We're in the process at the moment of trying to find out about the selection process. I'm putting a letter through to get some answers and to get Graeme some feedback," Brockley said.
"I think we were all under the understanding that if you performed like Graeme did you were a fair chance of getting into the country side."
NSW Country Cricket chairman Ian Hogg said the selection process would be reviewed at a board meeting this Monday.
"Obviously something went awry in the selection process. The process will be reviewed," Hogg said.
"The country championships are not a selection trial but even then I find it hard to believe that Graeme wasn't in the side."
Batty was "shattered" when he found out he had missed the side, having never represented country before.
"I was pretty devastated. Obviously something needs to be done with the selection process," he said.
"It makes you wonder what you have to do to get picked - do you have to score a double-hundred?"
Not only was Batty omitted, but Illawarra failed to gain a representative despite making the final.
The five-man selection panel does not contain an Illawarra delegate and until that changes, Batty believes players from the association will be snubbed.
He said Josh Lehane, Tommi Bozinovski and Kyle Connor all deserved recognition.
"This isn't the first time this has happened, it's been going on for years," Batty said.
Last season's Illawarra cricketer of the year, Batty has struggled in the first grade competition for Keira, with scores of 7, 9 and 9 this season. But he vowed to "take out his anger" on Dapto in the top-of-the-table clash at Keira Oval today.
"We're undefeated, but I think they're the benchmark," he said.
In other round seven matches, Wollongong play University at North Dalton Park, Corrimal host Wests, Balgownie travel to Port Kembla, and Northern Districts clash with Helensburgh at Hollymount Park.
LADDER: Dapto 32, Keira 30, Balgownie 29, Port Kembla 26, Wollongong 20, Wests Illawarra 16, University 15, Corrimal 15, Helensburgh 15, Northern Districts 10.
