A gallant innings of 33 from Jay Ferguson was the highlight of an otherwise dismal performance by Albion Park during its first-ever innings defeat at the hands of Warilla on Saturday.
The Eagles skipper hung on where none of his team-mates could during the two-day fixture, although his efforts ultimately paled in significance behind the Kookaburras' relentless bowling and batting performances.
Warilla captain Gerard Healy tore through the Albion Park batsmen with 4-22, en route to dismissing the opposition for a first-innings total of 124.
Warilla then made the game their own at the crease, finishing with a solid 241 declared after stellar knocks from Gavin McCauley (81 not out) and Blake Hutchison (29).
Albion Park bowler Matt Burns made the biggest impact with the cherry, finishing his 12 overs with 3-33.
Warilla backed up its clinical batting with another strong bowling attack. This time it was Gavin McCauley (4-20) and Scott Cox (3-19) who shone most, combining to send Albion Park back to the pavilion in the second innings for only 72 from 37 overs. Ferguson equal top-scored with 13 in the second, along with Nicholas Bruce.
In the weekend's other South Coast games, Gerringong easily accounted for The Rail with a dominant first-innings victory at Gerry Emery Oval.
The home side posted a competitive 238 after winning the toss before dismissing The Rail for 81 and 72.
The Kiama-Oak Flats match was abandoned due to wet weather. The Cavaliers put on 167 runs and had the Rats on the ropes at 2-15.
