Yeaman notches third century for South Coast cricket season

16 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
The Rail skipper Col Yeaman smashed his third century of the season, while Josh Jones saved Kiama with the bat, then won the game with the ball against Gerringong in Saturday’s round 12 of South Coast cricket.

Defending champions Lake Illawarra will host Warilla in the one-day final on February 5 after their clash was washed out yesterday and both clubs posted wins on Saturday.

The Lakers clinched top spot with an easy seven-wicket win over Jamberoo, while Warilla claimed a finals spot with an 80-run home thrashing of Oak Flats.

With the Warilla versus Lake Illawarra washed out yesterday both clubs earned seven points for the draw.

The draw was enough for Warilla to shut the door on the hopes of Oak Flats and Kiama to force their way into the decider against the Lakers.

Meantime, at Croome Cricket Oval on Saturday, Yeaman hammered 12 boundaries in an impressive unbeaten 100, out of 4-209 in the Razorbacks’ easy win over Shellharbour.

It was Yeaman’s second ton against Shellharbour this season, while he also blasted 115 against his former club Oak Flats in the SCG Country Cup.

The victory on Saturday consolidated fourth spot for The Rail after they dismissed Shellharbour for only 126.

Shellharbour opener Pat Moulton (47) top-scored, while veteran Darren O’Connell took 4-25 on his Rail debut.

Meantime, Gerringong were dismissed for a season-low 29 after chasing just 91 against Kiama at Gerry Emery Oval.

Josh Jones top-scored for Kiama with a match-saving 27 out of 91, then took 5-9 to lead the Cavaliers to victory.

Meanwhile, an unbeaten 46 from Gavin McCauley batting at No 8, helped Warilla reach a winning 8-182 against Oak Flats at Oakleigh Park.

Oak Flats skipper Ryan Chatterton took 3-40 and also top-scored (26) but in what effectively was the match to decide a place in the one-day final, the Rats were bowled out for just 102.

Nash Hutchison took 3-8 for Warilla.

In Saturday’s other clash, Lake Illawarra (3-77) needed less than 20 batting overs to beat Jamberoo (76). Jamie Crowhurst took 5-14 for the Lakers.

Col Yeaman is just a slogger. I bet he gave 5 chances in that innings.

@ snaker. How many hundreds have you scored in 1st grade this season? There's plenty of sloggers in Illawarra and Sth Coast cricket, always has been. Seems the fielders aren't taking those chances you're talking about.

I've never seen Col Yeaman bat , and I've seen some very scratchy hundreds made in local cricket, but give credit where credit is due, a hundred is a hundred, regardless of how well the person batted.

Col Yeaman has scored two of his three centuries against Shellharbour. Quality bowling attacks!!!

The equivalent of scoring runs against emerging nations. Canada and Kenya come to mind...
