Balgownie teen Jackson Law has continued his rapid rise through cycling's ranks by winning Australia's richest track race.
The 16 year-old won the $12,500 Latrobe Wheel last Sunday with a devastating sprint finish, emulating his brother, Scott, who won the race as a 16 year-old in 2007.
With two laps to go in the six-lap, 300m handicap sprint, Law went wheel to wheel with Commonwealth Games gold medalist Ben Kersten.
"With half a lap to go Ben (Kersten) started to sprint and I went with him," Law said. "It's a pretty good feeling - I didn't think I could get around him."
Law collected $7500 for his efforts, which will help pay for his travel to Italy this year for the junior world championships, if selected.
Later in the day, Illawarra riders completed a trifecta in the scratch race, with Scott Law first, followed by Kersten and Jackson third.
The Law brothers continued to dominate on the track as the carnival moved to Tasmania on Monday, Scott Law winning the scratch race in Launceston and Davenport, with Jackson among the placings.
Scott Law,18, returned to competitive riding in October after he was hit by a car at Windang in December 2008.
The Law brothers will compete in the Geelong Road Series from January 2-6 and the national road championships starting in Ballarat on January 7.
