Wollongong's Scott Chipperfield has declined to comment after being outed as the mystery player in the middle of a feud between ex-Socceroos team-mates Harry Kewell and Robbie Slater.
Kewell's manager Bernie Mandic told a Melbourne radio station the Bellambi product had been fingered by ex-national assistant coach Graham Arnold as the player who told Kewell to "f... off" at the end of Australia's disappointing World Cup campaign.
Slater, a News Ltd columnist and Fox Sports television personality, wrote an article in the Sunday Telegraph detailing the alleged incident, without naming the player.
The article prompted Kewell to blast Slater and Arnold on pay TV on Tuesday night.
Mandic - who was not at the Socceroos' farewell dinner, where the altercation was said to have taken place - told a radio station he doubted Chipperfield had said anything to Kewell.
"For someone to have said Harry is of no value to the Australia team, didn't happen," Mandic said.
"Because the player in question, and I'll identify him, it's Scott Chipperfield.
"Scott Chipperfield … is a good bloke, he basically did not say that.
"The source of the story is one Graham Arnold, [former] assistant coach to Australia."
Chipperfield, who is based in Switzerland, declined to comment when contacted by the Mercury yesterday.
Arnold denied Mandic's allegations via a Central Coast Mariners spokesperson, while Slater only offered a "no comment".
