Illawarra Stingrays stars Caitlin Cooper and Michelle Heyman will feel right at home when they line up with Canberra United in this afternoon’s W-League grand final in the nation’s capital.
Canberra finished the regular season undefeated and advanced to the premiership decider with last week’s 1-0 defeat of Melbourne.
Prolific striker Heyman scored the game’s only goal with eight minutes remaining, while classy centre-back Cooper played a key role in the middle.
McKellar Park is expected to be filled to capacity today and the Illawarra-based duo is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces in the crowd.
‘‘A lot of the Stingrays girls are coming down so that’ll be really good,’’ Cooper said.
‘‘It’s apparently a sell-out crowd so it should be a good atmosphere. We had 1700 last week and I think they’re going to squeeze two-and-a-half thousand in for the grand final.
‘‘People are saying we’re the favourites because we were undefeated this season, but [four-time grand finalists] Brisbane have a lot of experience,’’ Cooper said.
The grand final will be televised live on ABC from 3pm.
