Rival coaches John Turner and Brian Brown continued their war of words over whether Sutherland or Wollongong deserved the tag of "NSW Premier League's best" in the lead-up to tomorrow's grand final.
Brown believes the league champion Sharks deserve that mantle regardless of the result tomorrow, while Turner believes the Wolves would earn the label with a win at CUA Stadium, Penrith.
"Without doubt," Turner said when asked if tomorrow's winner would earn the right to call themselves the league's best.
Turner also labelled Sutherland's premiership triumph - in which they denied Wollongong FC on goal difference - "like winning a penalty shoot-out".
"They beat us once, we drew, then we beat them," Turner said. "If they are the real champions, they'll win the (league and grand final) double."
For his part, Brown views the finals series as a completely different proposition to the 22-round, home-and-away grind.
"I'm not really focused on who is the best team, just on winning," Brown said.
"I think we have already earned it by being the best team over the 22 rounds.
"I don't quite understand John's logic when we were the ones who received the trophy at the end of the season."
The coaches - who last crossed swords as opposing grand final coaches when Turner was at Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Bailey at Blacktown - both believe tomorrow's contest will go down to the wire.
Another thing both agree on is that the crowd would be bigger if the venue was closer to their respective club's geographical bases.
Football NSW announced CUA Stadium would be the grand final venue in June.
"It should be at WIN Stadium," Turner said.
"They would have got a very good crowd, the people of Sutherland would have travelled down."
