Gerroa surfer Sally Fitzgibbons was ruthless as she won the ASP World Qualifying Series event in Portugal on Sunday.
The 18 year-old scored a 9.85 on her final wave to win the final of the six-star Estoril Billabong Girls Pro against Hawaii's Coco Ho at Bufuriera Beach.
The win gives Fitzgibbons a valuable 3000 ratings points and a boost in confidence in her rookie year on the ASP Tour.
Competing in clean 1 to 1.2m waves, Fitzgibbons came out blazing in the final, scoring four excellent waves before sealing victory with a near-perfect ride.
After winning the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) last year, the 2007 ASP World Junior Champion has already made her mark at the top level.
In just her second ASP Tour event at Bells Beach last month, Fitzgibbons beat seven-time world champion Layne Beachley on her way to a third-place finish.
After being a semi-finalist at Bells and a ninth placing in the season's first ASP event, Fitzgibbons said the WQS win would provide some momentum for the remainder of the year.
"It's great to be back on the podium and definitely it has been some time between drinks," Fitzgibbons said, adding that some last-minute tactical adjustments had made all the difference in the final.
"I surfed a lot of heats before the final and paddled out quite relaxed and sat wide," she said.
"I saw the tide starting to drain out and thought there were two peaks. I was lucky when the first one came wide and I got it."
