Mount Warrigal teenager Jordan Zunic will take on the best amateur golfers in the most populated country in the world when he tees it up in the Chinese Open Amateur Championship this week.
The 17-year-old was invited to play in the NSW PGA at Wollongong this week but had to turn down the opportunity after winning a spot on the Australian team for China.
His third place in the Aaron Baddeley Junior Championship Australian final gave him a spot on the team of six.
"It is a great chance to go to China and play against a field from around the world," Zunic said.
"The Chinese Amateur will be a great experience and the following week we play the Baddeley International tournament at Dragon Lake.
"They are both four round events, so it will be a very good challenge for me."
Zunic has been in good form winning the Baddeley NSW final at Liverpool in October before shooting 72, 69 at Heritage Golf Club in Melbourne to book his spot on the plane to China.
His total of three-under-par 141 was three shots behind Australian final winner Matt Overall of South Australia.
"I've been playing pretty solid and after the 72 I knew I had to play well to make the team," Zunic said.
"I never really got within striking distance of the winner but I did enough to finish third and get the trip.
"In a way it's disappointing because I would have loved to play the (NSW) PGA but it's not every day you get a chance to play in China."
