Govers to tackle Kookas

07 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
Illawarra hockey star Kieran Govers has been selected in the Australia A team for week one of a four-nation tournament in Perth from tomorrow.

Govers (pictured) was chosen in the team to play the Kookaburras (Australia) in the opening game.

However, a number of Olympic squad players, including Govers, are expected to be in the Kookaburras squad for the second week of matches.

World No 3-ranked the Netherlands and No 9 Argentina are also playing at the tournament.

This will be the first hit-out for the newly formed 2012 national/Olympic Games squad and the 2012 development squad, who are hoping to impress coaches to win major selection.

"We are in heavy training at the moment and these matches will give the players a great chance to play against strong teams that we'll be competing against in London," Kookaburras coach Ric Charlesworth said.

Good on you Kieran. Hope you go well and make the Olympic side too.
