08 Feb, 2012 11:21 AM
The Australian Olympic hockey squad will arrive in the Illawarra next month as part of its preparations for London.

The Kookaburras, featuring Albion Park’s own Kieran Govers, will play a three-game series against China.

Details are being finalised, but it is believed the first game will be played on March 24.

Australia won last year’s Champions Trophy tournament and are considered one of the favourites for Olympic gold in London in July and August.

This will be a great opportunity to see some excellent athletes locally and also catch a glimpse of Ric Charlesworth, one of the world's best hockey coaches, in action.

This area produces some excellent talent in hockey. Glad to see to opportunity.
