Caulfield Cup: Predatory Pricer is TAB favourite

17 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
The popularity of Predatory Pricer with rank-and-file punters has him set to start TAB favourite for the Group One BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) this afternoon.

The four-year-old half-brother to Takeover Target had a high profile before he stepped foot on the track and his lead-up form, with placings in the Underwood and Turnbull stakes, has only added lustre to the Kembla Grange hero.

The big money arrived for Predatory Pricer yesterday and he was backed into favourite with several agencies around the country.

He was still an $8.50 second elect with TAB Sportsbet last night after touching $10 at one stage.

"He has been the best backed horse with us today and the biggest bet we have taken on the race is $10,000 on him at $10," TAB Sportsbet's Glenn Munsie said last night.

"They just love to back him because of the Takeover Target link and I would think he will be the favourite on the tote when they jump.

"He has been in the market ever since we opened betting and the punters just think he has the best form in the important lead-up races.

"Most of the money for him is coming from NSW and it's coming in $20s, $50s and $100s."

Paul Murray is confident the son of Street Cry can reproduce his effort at his only try at 2400m when he was a luckless third to Roman Emperor in the AJC Australian Derby in April.

"He should have won that day," Murray said.

"He got a couple of checks in the straight and he is a much better horse now.

"He is more mature and I think if he settles in running he will be very hard to beat."
