Lucky pick-up after races washed out

07 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
In an ironic twist, Kembla Grange will tomorrow host a washed out Hawkesbury program, four days after losing a meeting of its own due to wet weather.

The ATC meeting had already been transferred to Hawkesbury from Randwick but will now be run at Kembla due to consistent rain further north.

The Kembla track was yesterday rated a Heavy 8 and with more rain forecast today and tomorrow, it could be downgraded further.

Kembla racing manager Michael Craig admitted to having mixed feelings about hosting a transferred meeting.

"I guess we're doing our bit for the industry by taking the meeting on but at the same time, we'll now have hosted two city meetings in a week but unfortunately for the locals and for our members we lost our own meeting in the middle," Craig said.

The only alteration to tomorrow's program will see the fillies and mares' Benchmark 80 race, changed from 1800m to 1600m.

The three barrier trials at Kembla tomorrow morning will proceed on the B Grass, but the scheduled jump-outs have been cancelled.
