Kerry Parker hopes to unearth another Nextanix after leading a Kembla assault on the Inglis Classic Yearling Sales.
The trainer splashed more than $175,000 on six yearlings at this week’s sales at Newmarket.
Parker put his hand up for a pair of Domesday colts, from the same sire as stakes-placed Nextanix, for $46,000 and $20,000 respectively.
‘‘I suppose Nextanix helped me look at those horses,’’ he said.
‘‘They’re along his mould and with good breeding and one being a full brother to Backgammon. They’re both nice horses and I hope they’ve got his ability.’’
Parker’s highest purchase was a Rock Of Gibraltar colt, out of unraced US mare Legs Up To Here, from Murrulla Stud at Wingen. The hammer dropped on him for $47,500.
Louise Dean continued to rejuvenate her stable with three purchases grossing $66,000.
‘‘We’re just trying to get a bit more firepower,’’ she said. ‘‘We didn’t intend on buying three, but that’s what we ended up with.
‘‘Looking at them, I think they’ll go early, hopefully, and they’re all really, really nice yearlings.’’
Dean could be forgiven for having a double take on a pair of bay Snippetson colts she picked up.
‘‘They’re very much alike,’’ she said. ‘‘It’s uncanny, actually.’’
Two Bede Murray purchases fetched $51,000, including a Choisir filly out of Blue Mink for a healthy $35,000.
Brian Young, Lauren Davies and Robert Price also came home with two yearlings.
Arrowfield Stud’s sales-topping Hussonet colt from Monte Rosa stole the headlines on the last day after drawing a bid of $140,000.
