After experiencing two of his lowest days as a trainer, Paul Murray finally received good news yesterday when Predatory Pricer was cleared of serious injury to his off-side front leg.
The four-year-old was a well-beaten Caulfield Cup favourite on Saturday and was preliminarily diagnosed with a suspensory ligament injury on Sunday, but the news was much better yesterday.
"It's unreal," Murray said. "They scanned the leg and couldn't find anything wrong with it.
"Nothing to the tendon and no breaks. They think he might have just twisted it - but he's all right.
"They want us to get the leg scanned again next week to check it is okay, but it is the best possible news."
Predatory Pricer will head back to Kembla Grange today and be sent straight for a spell, with races such as the Doncaster in the autumn in mind.
He will be accompanied by his trainer, who can't believe his luck.
On Sunday night, Murray had feared he would never see Predatory Pricer race again, with the breeding barn calling to the half-brother to Takeover Target.
"It has been an unbelievable couple of days," Murray said.
"We went to Caulfield on Saturday with the horse the best he has been and he travelled so relaxed (from Ballarat) I was very excited about his chances.
"That didn't work out and then to think he had done the suspensory (ligament) really topped off a bad couple of days.
"He is 569 kilos and not many horses his size come back from them, so I thought he might be heading to stud.
"But I was just blown away when the vet said he couldn't find anything.
"It's unbelievable."
The bonus of the injury scare will be Predatory Pricer can spend a couple of extra weeks in the paddock and recover from any niggles he has. Murray said he will come back into the stable around Christmas.
"These top horses don't get much of a break, so to go (for a spell) a couple of weeks earlier can only help him," Murray said.
"We will keep him to a mile and 2000m when he comes back but there are plenty of races there for him."
