He would be one of the youngest players at the Junior South Pacific, but 11-year-old Dylan Skinner has set the senior tournament ablaze by qualifying for the singles and pairs play-offs.
Skinner - the "baby" of this year's tournament - and Danny Osborn reached post-sectional pairs play after two wins at Towradgi yesterday.
Despite giving up 62 years to his Bomaderry club-mate, Skinner was at home in the skip's role, which he will reprise in today's knock-out stage.
"It works pretty good," Skinner said of calling the shots for a partner who won the fours title in 1979.
"I like playing against men because I get more experience and I learn from them.
"Danny rolls up with me and tells me what I'm doing wrong and right."
Skinner, who is yet to start high school, will also mix it with the tournament's elite in the singles after advancing at the expense of respected Towradgi bowler Dave Wakeling on Tuesday.
"It felt good. I'd like to get to the quarter-finals or semi-finals," Skinner said.
Despite his tender age, Skinner is no stranger to post-sectional play at the state's biggest carnival - he was part of the Scott Bateup side that made the fours quarter-finals in 2007-08.
Earlier this year Skinner won the state junior pairs, the Bomaderry major and minor pairs and was named in the Zone 7 senior side.
Osborn labelled Skinner, who took up bowls at six, the best prospect he had seen.
"He's the best prospect I've ever seen at 11 years of age because he has seven more years as a junior," he said.
"Normally a coach rectifies a player's delivery ... but he's so natural, and if I start mucking around with that, it might mess his game up.
"He's like an experienced No 1 pennants skipper - he has all the shots.
"He will be in the state side in a few years."
