The first of the post-sectional rounds in the South Pacific begins this morning at Woonona Bowling Club with 21 teams cut to just four semi-finalists by the end of today.
The winners from sections 1-10 meet in the first post-sectional round this morning with section 11-21 winners having a bye into round two this afternoon.
Among the top match-ups will be Brian Harriott skipping his Fairy Meadow side against tournament favourites Shane Garvey, who is partnered by Troy Somerville, Australian coach Steve Glasson and son Ben.
Garvey has no doubt opponents will rate his team a big scalp.
‘‘We’ve got a target on our back,’’ the four-time player of the carnival said.
‘‘There’s no denying we have a strong team. Troy’s been one of the best bowlers around here for a long time and Steve Glasson is a name everyone knows in bowls. It’s a good team but we have to perform.’’
Taren Point skip Chris Green takes on Wiseman Park Wollongong City’s Robbie Warren, while the clash between Peter Swan and Tony Evans pits two teams who won all three games in their section.
Defending fours champion John Green takes on Bulli’s Jarrod Hamilton in round two this afternoon.
With the third game today doubling as the quarter-finals, the fours competition will be down to just four teams.
And after three days play at a host of clubs, all matches are now at at headquarters Woonona BC.
