Ultra-marathon runner Dave Taylor is battling blisters and a swollen ankle as he attemps to break the world record for treadmill running.
The 58-year-old has been running on a treadmill in the foyer of Wests Illawarra Leagues Club since Saturday night, aiming to break the 811km world record set by US airman Brendan Brustad in April.
At 9am today, Taylor had covered 280km and was within 8-10km of world-record pace.
During the run Taylor takes short breaks - up to half an hour at a time - and manages to grab snatches of sleep, but he will not have a proper night's rest during the seven-day race.
Taylor's support team today said he had blisters on his feet and his left ankle was swollen, however he was determined to battle through and seize the world record.
He has already raised $27,000 in the Gone But Not Forgotten charity run, which is dedicated to the memory of Kerryn McCann and police officers who have been injured or killed in the line of duty.
He is scheduled to finish the run at 6pm on Saturday.
