Currarong's Ty Watson beat some of the state's hottest young surfers to claim his second win at Werri Beach in a few months by taking out the Zink Surf South Coast Pro.
After scraping through his quarter-final with a winning ride in the final minute, Watson carved through the semi-finals and Saturday's final, held in an excellent 1.4m break.
North Narrabeen's Ben Short pushed Watson all the way to finish second, with Shane Holmes (Berkeley Vale) third and Shane Carroll (Avalon, NSW) fourth.
"I love surfing here," said Watson, who collected $1200 for his win. "I won the Red Bull here only a few months back after a third in the state titles, so it's good to be back at Werri and awesome to have a win."
The Zink Surf South Coast Pro was the sixth and final event on the prestigious Hurley NSW Championship Circuit, with Kiama Downs' Rhys Bombaci pocketing $1000 for winning the overall series.
Shane Carroll (Avalon, NSW) was runner-up, with North Wollongong's Nick Squires third and Watson fourth.
"To wrap up such a prestigious event at home is amazing," said Bombaci, an ASP World Qualifying Series stalwart. "The level of surfing ... continues to rise. I can't wait to defend my title next year."
Watson, ranked 23 in the ASP Australasian Pro Juniors, heads to the Philippines to compete against the world's best. The Werri event was hosted by Werri Beach Boardriders Club and supported by Zink Surf, Hurley, Kiama Tourism and Surfing NSW.
