Ben Hornby signs on to stay with Dragons

02 Sep, 2010 02:27 PM
St George Illawarra captain Ben Hornby is set to play out the rest of his career with the club after announcing today he had re-signed for a further three years.

The 30-year-old halfback has missed just one game in the past two seasons, leading the Dragons to successive minor premierships.

The announcement comes a week out from the NRL finals series, but after a prolonged negotiation period between his manager George Mimis and club chief executive Peter Doust.

“I’ve been here my whole career and the thought never really crossed my mind to play anywhere else and

hopefully I’ll finish my career here,” Hornby said.

Coach Wayne Bennett praised Hornby’s commitment since appointing him captain at the start of the 2009 campaign.

“Ben is a special player and special person at the Dragons,” said Doust. “The attributes he brings to the club both on and off the field are exceptional and we are delighted that he has chosen to remain at the Dragons”.

But I bet he won't be playing half back next season. Cooper Cronk is set to sign on monday of next week, after the dragons sell of 1 more player over the weekend. You heard it here first!

DUFA - is that short for Don't F@&%#ing Understand Anything? I said they have to unload another player first (senior player) this week end, then you will hear the news. Cronk has put a deposit on a house at woonona beach, and it's not for an investment.

I've heard Boyd wants to go back to QLD. Maybe he is the man to be offloaded. Hornby back to fullback.

Heard the same thing. Boyd to the Gold Coast. Rogers retiring and Campbell to 5/8. Boyd to fullback. At Dragons Fien to halfback, Aubusson to Dragons. No Cooper Cronk from my sources. He loves Bellyache and Melbourne.

Boyd aint going anywhere that Bennett doesn't go. The senior player to go, might just be a back rower?
