St George Illawarra's first win under Wayne Bennett came with an assurance from the master coach that the problems with the Dragons stuttering attack will be solved.
Having ground out a 16-10 victory over the Gold Coast at WIN Stadium, Bennett gave the Dragons' defence a ringing endorsement, but conceded there was much work ahead for them in the point-scoring department.
"I think they've been excellent (in defence) holding us together at the moment," he said. "They can all see we're struggling (in attack).
"But I expected that, it's not something I hadn't budgeted for.
"Defence is always easier than attack, I don't know, probably because you've got to think about it less.
"We're patchy you know, it's pretty obvious, but we're not worried about it, it will come."
When asked why he had so much confidence about the Dragons finding their feet in attack, Bennett said: "Because I know what I'm doing."
While their attack may be open to improvement, Bennett recognised the outstanding performances of several of his players, most notably prop Michael Weyman.
Weyman produced another powerhouse performance, prompting Bennett to label him as "nothing short of sensational" on Saturday night.
Winger Wendell Sailor was heavily involved with a number of bullocking runs, while centre Beau Scott was also excellent in tightening up the defence on the right edge.
After leading 6-4 at half-time, the Dragons advanced their lead to eight points through a fortunate 45th-minute try to Neville Costigan.
Winger Jason Nightingale sealed victory in the 67th minute at 16-4, before Gold Coast recruit Will Zillman touched down in the final seconds for a consolation try.
Hornby said the Dragons' defensive performances have offered confidence to the team but he called for patience as they looked for more cohesion in attack.
"We just felt like it was just patchy, there's no other word to describe it at the moment," he said.
"But the majority of it, it wasn't quite good enough.
"It's just going to take some time."
