Dragons slayed in Canberra - again

St George Illawarra’s decade-long Canberra hoodoo continued in the national capital this afternoon.Desperate to keep their top eight hopes alive, the Raiders stunned the competition leaders with five second-half tries which set up a 32-16 victory in front of 20,445 at Canberra Stadium.The Dragons led 4-0 at half-time but tries to Daniel Vidot (49th min), Terry Campese (57th), Adam Mogg (59th), Josh Dugan (62nd) and Joe Picker (65th) turned the game on its head.

  • Full coverage of the Dragons The Raiders then had to survive some nervous moments in the closing stages when Mark Gasnier and Neville Costigan struck back with four-pointers of their own.But replacement Raiders hooker Glen Buttriss darted over from dummy-half with three minutes remaining to seal the victory.The win was the Raiders’ eight consecutive over the Dragons at Canberra Stadium, dating back to 2001.Despite the loss, the Dragons remain on top of the NRL ladder but the minor premiership remains up for grabs with two rounds to go.
