Just when it seemed nothing could stop St George Illawarra, the Dragons' minor premiership bid has been rocked by yesterday's citation of three players by the NRL match review committee.
NSW State of Origin prop Justin Poore is facing a three-week ban for a dangerous throw which put a bloodied Penrith winger Shane Elford in Sydney's Westmead Hospital on Friday night.
However, the Dragons were surprised to learn second-rower Matt Prior and centre Beau Scott were both facing one-week suspensions for a 41st-minute tackle on Panthers five-eighth Wade Graham.
Full coverage of The St George Illawarra DragonsWhile the club would not comment, it is understood they are considering contesting all three charges.
Poore was penalised in the 14th minute after a tackle which started around Elford's hips ended up with the winger landing on his back and neck area.
It was initially feared Elford had suffered bleeding on the eye, but he was released from hospital on Friday night.
Elford escaped penalty after being put on report for his earlier tackle on Matt Cooper, with contact determined to be made first with the Dragons centre's shoulder.
The grade two offence will suspend Poore for two games if he takes the early guilty plea, or three if he fights the charge at the NRL judiciary tomorrow night and loses.
It continues an at-times controversial season for the Helensburgh Tigers product.
Poore's outstanding early-season form earned him a NSW debut, but he was criticised for lifting Steve Price from the ground after the Queensland prop was knocked out during a fight with Melbourne's Brett White.
The 24-year-old also had a protracted contract saga with the Dragons before signing with Parramatta for the next three years.
A three-game ban would stop Poore playing until round 26.
Meanwhile, Prior and Scott will miss Saturday night's clash with the Raiders at Canberra Stadium if they accept a one-game suspension for the tackle on Graham.
The Panthers playmaker flipped over as he fell to ground during the first set of six after half-time, but the incident was not penalised at the time.
Scott received a 40 per cent loading for two prior lifting incidents while Prior received a 20 per cent loading.
Premiership favourites the Dragons are four points clear of the second-placed Bulldogs on the NRL ladder.
