Dragons to kick off first five NRL rounds

10 Dec, 2009 03:00 AM
St George Illawarra's standing as a major NRL drawcard was further enhanced yesterday after the release of times and dates for the first five rounds of next year's draw.

The minor premiers will play five Friday night blockbusters in as many weeks to start the 2010 season, including a battle against their qualifying final conquerors Parramatta in round one.

After their trip to Parramatta Stadium, the Dragons will play three of the next four games at WIN Stadium.

The home fixtures include clashes with preliminary finalists the Bulldogs, North Queensland and Brisbane.

The Broncos knocked St George Illawarra out of the NRL premiership race with a 24-10 semi-final win at Suncorp Stadium in September.

In round four, the Dragons' clash with premiers Melbourne will be played on Good Friday, with kick-off scheduled for 3.35pm.

The scheduling means that at least four games featuring the Red V in the opening five weeks are set to be shown live on WIN Television, with only the round-three showdown against the Cowboys likely to be delayed at 9.30pm.

This is not so bad news for Wollongong and dragons fans , but unfortunately due to the construction of the western stand in the 2nd half of the season they will miss out on a home semi, to Kogarah again, if they make it to the finals.
