Illawarra Coal has purchased the naming rights to local rugby league in the region in a landmark sponsorship deal announced this morning.
The sponsorship encompasses rugby league in the Illawarra from grassroots to the elite level including naming rights to:
The Illawarra NSW Cup teamIllawarra Coal Rugby League (formerly the Carlton League and VB Cup);Illawarra Coal Junior League including Group Seven Junior Rugby League (formerly Coastwide Engineering Junior League); andIllawarra Division representative teams.Illawarra Coal president Colin Bloomfield said the company was proud to be involved with Illawarra Rugby League, to support the continued success of a sport that has traditionally had strong bonds between Illawarra Coal, its employees and their families.
“We’re really excited about this partnership as we know that rugby league, like Illawarra Coal, is synonymous with the Illawarra region,’’ Mr Bloomfield said.
‘‘We believe this partnership will bring about great benefits for Illawarra Rugby League, its participating football clubs and of course the many juniors throughout the region.”
Ian Neill, chairman of the Illawarra Coal Rugby League Board of Management, said he was pleased to welcome Illawarra Coal on board at such an important time for rugby league.
“There is great alignment between our two organisations and we are very pleased to be able to work with Illawarra Coal to build on the success of last year’s Centenary celebrations,” Mr Neill said.
“Not only does this partnership allow us to continue with our strategic plan for grassroots rugby league in the Illawarra, but it also ensures we can provide an important pathway to the St George Illawarra Dragons for those wishing to pursue their NRL dreams.”
