A niggling sternum injury has failed to stop Jarryd Hayne from delivering a terrifying warning to his rivals on the eve of the new season.
Hayne declared he's fitter and faster than the rugby league thoroughbred we saw last year.
He claims his footwork has improved and he wants to be more involved in the Eels attack this season.
Full coverage of the Dragons This coming from 2009's most electrifying player - the spark that lit Parramatta's fuse.
Hayne is the man NSW will look to in hope of ending Queensland's State of Origin dominance.
He's the dazzling, side-stepping fullback that weaved in and out of what seemed to be the entire St George Illawarra team in last year's qualifying final to score that try.
The 22-year-old yesterday revealed he had improved his fitness in a bid to do even more damage this season.
"Just to have a bit more involvement," Hayne said.
"(I'll have) a bit more fitness and especially (be) lighter on my feet.
"I think I was playing at 100kg last year, so hopefully I can get down to about 98 this year.
"I just sort of trimmed down a bit.
"I did feel it was holding me back from being more involved.
"I want to get a bit faster, but you take away your strength because of the weight, so if you want to gain something you've got to lose something."
But Hayne's armoury could be dented by the sternum problem that he will carry into tomorrow night's huge season opener against the Dragons.
Hayne suffered the injury in the inaugural NRL All Stars game and aggravated it in the trial loss to Penrith.
The Eels flyer said he was not concerned about the Dragons targeting him.
"The thing is, it's an injury that's going to be around for a while," Hayne said.
"I've just got to get used to playing with it.
"It's one of those aggravating injuries.
"You don't realise it's still sore until you get hit, but I'm just going to have to wait and see.
"It's just getting tackled, that's what does it and I'm obviously going to get tackled."
