NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell officially has unveiled the Centenary of Illawarra Rugby League sculpture outside the northern entrance to WIN Stadium.Mr O’Farrell invited centenary committee chairman Bob Millward to assist with the unveiling of the sculpture which is the final event on the centenary year calendar.
PHOTO GALLERY: Centenary of LeagueFormer Wollongong sculptor Lis Johnson who now lives in Melbourne produced a unique bronze sculpture depicting past and future generations of rugby league in Illawarra.It shows a player from the past 100 years of rugby league passing the football to a youngster carry it on into the code’s next century in this district.Mr O’Farrell was accompanied by Minister for Sport and Recreation Graham Annesley, himself a former NRL referee and administrator.Illawarra Centenary of Rugby League ambassador and member of the Illawarra Team of the Century, Councillor John Dorahy, was among more than 80 guests including, community and business leaders, rugby league officials and centenary sponsors, along with members of the public who attended the unveiling ceremony.
