National Youth Cup: Vickery leads Dragons to victory

St George Illawarra winger Joe Vickery surged to the top of the National Youth Cup try scorers list with a stunning five-try haul against Newcastle at WIN Jubilee Oval on Saturday.

Vickery was the star as the Dragons romped away with victory in the second half, recording a 40-6 win.

The sensational performance sees Vickery move to 11 tries from six games in the under-20 competition this season.

His final try came in the 70th minute when he scored under the posts after some brilliant lead-up play by hooker Mitch Rein.

Prop Trent Merrin, captain and second-rower Jake Marketo and centre Dean Whare and Rein also crossed for tries.

The Dragons are firmly in the competition top eight with four victories this season.
