Penrith lock Luke Lewis has thrown his support behind embattled Dragons hooker Luke Priddis, describing his end-of-season axing as "disappointing".
Lewis has called on St George Illawarra to give his former premiership-winning team-mate the send-off he deserves as he approaches the final weeks of his 14-year career.
The Panthers hard man believes Priddis' form this season warrants selection in the Dragons' semi-final campaign and would be a fitting way to farewell a great servant of the game.
Full coverage of the Dragons "I think he's been playing great footy this year and has been leading the team really well," Lewis told the Mercury.
"He sticks to the game plan and does his own thing out of dummy-half.
"He's got good vision and I think he's been sensational this year."
Wayne Bennett has named the 33-year-old on an eight-man bench for the clash with South Sydney on Sunday night but, barring injury, he isn't expected to feature in the match at WIN Jubilee Oval.
The 33-year-old played 18 consecutive matches for the red and whites at hooker but, on the eve of the finals, Bennett has opted for the speedy Nathan Fien who has recovered from the leg injury he suffered in round one.
Priddis is unlikely to extend his 315-game career, but Lewis is adamant the former Raider and Bronco deserves to finish on a high.
"He's done everything in the game - won a grand final, he's a Clive Churchill medallist and has played representative football," Lewis said.
"The Dragons have such a good side down there and everyone is fighting for spots, but it would be special to see him off on a high.
"Hopefully, just not winning the competition."
Priddis played for Canberra and Brisbane before joining the Panthers in 2002 - three games into Lewis' NRL career.
Despite developing into a representative player himself, Lewis said he gained a lot from being around the champion hooker.
"He's been a professional for as long as I've known him," Lewis said. "I remember when he was here, he was the most professional bloke I've ever seen.
"I learned a lot from him."
