DRAGONS coach Nathan Brown is confident star five-eighth Jamie Sowards back injury won't prevent him playing in the NRL finals series.
His replacement, mid-season recruit Ben Rogers yesterday vowed to rise to another level in Saturday night's blockbuster against Parramatta at ANZ Stadium.
Rogers has been part of two polished St George Illawarra victories since being rushed into the Dragons line-up after his switch from South Sydney earlier this year.
But Rogers admitted to making a number of errors in Sundays 34-6 victory over the Warriors and believes he can deliver much better.
"I'm a little bit disappointed with my personal game on the weekend," he told the Mercury.
"I spoke to Browny about it and I'm thankful enough he's picked me this week. I had a few handling errors, but on the flip side I was happy with my defence, so it gives me something to build on."
The Dragons hoped Soward would only be forced out of the Brisbane clash a fortnight ago, however, the injury to his lower back has barely improved.
But Brown remained confident the pint-sized playmaker would be fit for the Round 26 showdown with the Roosters next Friday at Sydney Football Stadium.
"His back's not quite right," he said.
"The doc's pretty confident that with one more week off and a bit of training this week, that he'll be able to do one more week of training and be right for next week."
Without Soward, Dragons captain Mark Gasnier put his teammates on high alert, declaring the Eels will be a dangerous opposition on Saturday night, even though they're missing star halfback Brett Finch.
Finch was ruled out with a cheekbone injury after the Eels victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday night, as Parramatta are facing a desperate struggle for survival this season.
"Finchy is a big loss to them," Gasnier said.
"But they're still a desperate team and I think any desperate team is a dangerous team.
"It's a simple equation for them. If they lose they're out, if they win they're still a chance."
The Eels are ninth on 26 competition points and face the Warriors in the final round, while the Dragons are still hopeful of securing a place in the top four and a home semi-final with victories over Parramatta and the Roosters.
