St George Illawarra yesterday made another swift contractual strike, securing NSW State of Origin prop Michael Weyman for another three years.
The 25-year-old's signing comes just a week after the Dragons safely locked away star Jamie Soward.
The club has several free agents at the end of this year, including Matt Prior, Jarrod Saffy, Michael Greenfield, Trent Merrin and Nick Emmett.
Full coverage of the Dragons The Weyman deal is the reward for a remarkable rise to prominence under coach Wayne Bennett after years struggling for form and fitness while at the Canberra Raiders.
Following the 18-12 victory over Parramatta on Friday night, Weyman's signature is also a major boost to the Dragons chances of securing a premiership in the short term.
"The coaching staff have just made me really enjoy my football this year," he said.
"It's a great club to be sticking around at for a few more years."
Weyman emerged as one of the hardest men to stop in the NRL last year, averaging 13 runs for 110.8m and 22.6 tackles per game.
It was a steep rise for the Moruya junior, making his NSW State of Origin debut at the same time as ex-Dragon and close mate Justin Poore.
The two squared off on Friday night, with Poore penalised for landing a forearm on Weyman's head in a first-half tackle.
"I said that to (Poore at the time), 'the ref's looking straight at you mate'," Weyman said with a wide grin.
"It was a bit different playing against Poorey, but the best thing about footy mate, is that you can shake each other's hand after the game and walk away good mates." The Dragons front-rowers stepped up against their former team-mate on Friday night, with Dan Hunt, Jarrod Saffy and Jon Green leading the charge.
"I've never started a year before in first grade, so hopefully it builds up and gets better week by week," Green said. "(My form) has been building for about four or five years, I've always wanted to play first grade, but never had the confidence to play.
"This year I'm sort of getting it and Wayne has put a bit of faith in me."
