Pop icon Tina Turner, tennis aces Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal, basketballer LeBron James, Trent the Flight Steward and some tastefully attired lads made the trip to Wollongong yesterday to help the Wolves celebrate their NSW Premier League grand final win.
However, a closer look revealed it was the premiership-winning Wolves in fancy dress for an afternoon of celebrations after Sunday's 4-2 win over Sutherland at CUA Stadium, Penrith.
Midfielder Michael Hawrysiuk donned a blonde wig, cut-off jeans and pink tank-top to take up his alter ego as the queen of rock 'n' soul.
Defender Alfredo played the part of Sharapova, complete with racket, fetching one-piece dress and blonde wig.
Nadal was Tynan Diaz, LeBron was striker Osagie Ederaro and Trent the Flight Steward was keeper Justin Pasfield.
Ex-Wolves Shane Lyons, clad in a wetsuit, and Jay Lucas, who discarded a lovely yellow dress before the merry-making kicked into overdrive, joined the grand final winners for their celebrations.
Steve Hayes, the grand final man-of-the-match, turned up dressed as the late Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin and said the ritual - common across many sporting codes at the end of a season - was a chance for the Wolves to soak up their moment of glory.
"It makes the moment roll on," Hayes said.
"The boys get to enjoy their hard work and have a bit of fun."
Wollongong FC's players backed up after celebrating long into Sunday night with 300 fans at The Orb Bowling Club.
"Last night was unreal - the bus trip back home was the best moment for me," Hayes said.
"The Orb was packed, there was a good atmosphere and a good vibe. The supporters have been there right from the word go for us and that came out in force last night."
Hayes said the camaraderie among the Wolves' ranks made the celebrations more special.
"This is something special and doing it with this bunch of lads is the best part of it," he said.
Hayes' future with the Wolves is uncertain, especially after Sunday's man-of-the-match performance.
"You're in the eye of everyone else, but to be honest I didn't think I had a good game at all. I'm honoured to take the award and if I get something out of it then I'll take it," he said.
