Young waxheads throughout the region will head to North Wollongong for this weekend's final leg of the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp National Series.
More than 100 competitors will line up for the last event of the series, including highly rated youngsters Jackson Giles (Maroubra), Alyssa Lock (Tweed Heads), Skyla Rayner (Sussex), Nathan Martin (Cronulla) and Keira Buckpitt (Culburra).
"This series has grown beyond our expectations," Surfing NSW event manager Luke Madden said.
"Kids like Jackson and Alyssa turn up to more than one event across the state and their surfing just gets better and better.
"It's not only the more experienced kids that make the numbers. Our under 9s Parent Assist division is the most popular and it fills up so fast. Watching the stoked faces of the groms after their dad has pushed them onto the wave is what it's all about.
"The all-grommet, family-orientated event is all about providing a fun, competitive environment with a focus on introducing competitors to the structure of a professionally run surfing contest."
Buckpitt is contesting her second Wahu event after making her debut at Cronulla in December.
The tournament caters for under 15, under 13, under 11 and under 9 divisions for boys and girls.
Surfers will be advised of tomorrow's venue during today's proceedings.
