Wollongong swimmer Robert Hurley is gaining valuable international experience at the FINA world championships in Rome.
Hurley next swims tomorrow in heats of the 4x200m relay and providing he swims fast will be selected for the final. He will also swim the 1500m on Saturday.
Hurley finished 10th overall in the 800m freestyle on Tuesday, beaten by less than a second.
His time of 7min50.65sec was a personal best by three seconds.
He missed the 400m final by 0.33sec.
Hurley was also called into the 100m backstroke to replace one of the two Aussie backstroke reps, but missed the semi-finals.
