In the past year, 30,000 blogs have been created by students from NSW government schools.
Among the keener bloggers are students from Menai Public School, who are posting up to 30 comments a week on the books they have read for the Premier's Reading Challenge.
''We have only had the blog going for five weeks,'' the school's librarian, Carol Carlin, said.
''It gives the kids a chance to report back about the books they are reading, giving their opinions and getting immediate feedback. They are like little reporters, getting published.''
She had been surprised by how quickly her students had embraced the school's blog, which Ms Carlin, who has worked at the school for 17 years, created in the school holidays.
A year 6 pupil, Anton Amalfi, 11, who goes by the online alias of ''afl4life'' said the blog had allowed him to discuss his love of the sport as well as NRL with other classmates.
''It's a good way to tell people about my taste [in] reading,'' he said.
Year 3 pupil Alana Barton,
8, known online as ''Athletic Alana'', said having the opportunity to blog her reading experiences had made reading more exciting.
The pupils are accessing BlogEd, a tool created by the NSW Education Department for use across all years.
