About this time last year, the Illawarra community and the Mercury got stuck into the State Government over what we called then Treasurer Michael Costa's ``budget bypass'' of the region.
Despite a record infrastructure spend, when it all came out in the wash, the major new projects were very Sydney-centric.
Indications for tomorrow's state budget are not that good, either.
If the roads figures leaked to the Opposition earlier this month are correct, there will be record investment on roads in this budget - but again, mainly in Sydney and the state's north.
We hope our cries of disappointment then will result in some changes for tomorrow.
People in this region are not unrealistic in their wishes. We gladly welcome the commitment from the Government today for an upgrade to Unanderra Railway Station and new equipment at Wollongong Hospital for treating cancer.
But we also need other infrastructure projects to proceed - such as upgrades to Picton Rd and the Princes Hwy - that we believe are as important, if not more so, than those anywhere else.
Minister for the Illawarra David Campbell said the Illawarra will get a ``decent share'' of the Government's spending.
All we ask - all we have ever asked - is that the Government give us our fair share of the funding pie.
