For the most part Family First has been a party that has stood by its name - upholding good old-fashioned values that have well-served society.Family First doesn't like pornography, it doesn't want us overworked and it doesn't want to see any fundamental threat to the cosy feelings that the notion of family conjure up.Unfortunately, then, we wonder why the party has nominated a woman for Gilmore who doesn't want to talk publicly, who doesn't live in the area and who for all intents and purposes is a faceless candidate.

  • Gilmore's invisible candidate
  • VOTE: Should Family First candidate Elizabeth Cunningham directly address Gilmore constituents? We don't know Elizabeth Cunningham - and she may well be a fine upstanding woman. However, it seems to us that Family First has just wanted to nominate someone - anyone - in the marginal seat of Gilmore to prop up Liberal incumbent Joanna Gash. This happens time and time again in politics. There are more running mates in elections than there are dogs at Dapto on a Thursday night. What is different for Family First, though, is that it is a party supposedly founded on honesty and integrity. Instead, we are seeing the usual cynical political plays - and our democracy, a way of life hard fought for, deserves better.
