Susan Boyle more popular than Barack Obama online

21 Apr, 2009 06:03 PM
Online videos of Susan Boyle stunning the audience on Britain's Got Talent have proven more popular than those of Barack Obama's historic victory speech.

Footage of the unassuming Scot silencing the sniggering crowd has been viewed more than 100 million times in just over week, an internet statistics firm has estimated.

One YouTube clip alone has attracted 35.5 million hits as viewers around the world lap up her rags-to-riches story.

The 47-year-old's performance has eclipsed viewing figures for Barack Obama's victory speech, which received 18.5 million hits, according to the Mirror.

Miss Boyle is now tipped to take the crown as the most popular online video clip of all time.

That title is presently held by Evolution Of Dance, a clip from comic Judson Laipply which has been viewed more than 118 million times on YouTube since 2006.

Miss Boyle's video has also one of George W. Bush ducking a shoe in Iraq, which has been viewed 33.2 million times.

  • Miss Boyle, a 47-year-old charity worker, has been propelled to world fame after walking on stage at the television show auditions looking, as she put it, "like a garage".

The audience began to snigger as Miss Boyle revealed she would like to be as successful as the British theatre icon Elaine Paige.

But her performance of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables silenced her critics, and earned her a standing ovation.

In the past week Miss Boyle has sung live via satellite on the CBS Early Show in the US, won support from actress Demi Moore and her husband Ashton Kutcher, and earned an invitation to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

She is receiving bags of fan mail, with one letter addressed to: Susan Boyle, Britain's Got Talent Singer, Scotland. It arrived.

But she insists world fame will not change her appearance drastically.

"Maybe I'll consider a makeover later on," she told The Times.

"For now I'm happy the way I am - short and plump. I would not go in for Botox or anything like that. I'm content with the way I look."

Oh what a supersilious, pretentious, arrogant, smarmy git is that judge (I don't know who he is. Does he have some sort of talent?) But, I do remember the name Susan Boyle. I cannot wait to see him 'perform' at 48. Whatever he does, I will roll my eyes I am sure!
