Wollongong photographer, David Finlay was on Queensland’s Mulligans Highway, 100 kilometres west of Port Douglas yesterday morning to capture Australia’s first total solar eclipse in a decade.

Cloud prevented Illawarra residents from witnessing what would have been a partial eclipse here, but further north the stunning spectacle delighted onlookers.

‘‘I thought the rain and cloud were going to stop us getting any pictures, but we moved in west and got some good ones. I got everything I wanted ... it was really great,’’ Mr Finlay said.
