About 50 supervisors at Illawarra Coal’s Appin mine began a two week strike early this morning as they seek to bring failed negotiations over pay to a head.
The union representing the miners and Illawarra Coal have been locked in negotiations for months but have so far been unable to resolve the dispute.

The union says the 52 supervisors are seeking a "modest adjustment" that would bring wages in line with the NSW average.
Illawarra Coal, a subsidiary of BHP Billiton, says the claim is unreasonable and will not be advanced by strike action.
