Still coming to terms with the sudden passing of his father Kon, Demos stood with the Hawks for a minute’s silence just prior to tip-off.
The players and coaches wore black armbands in memory of Kon, who died after collapsing at work on Monday afternoon. He was 54.
Kon was a top Illawarra rugby league player in the 70s and 80s and remained well known in the community through his construction company and love of many sports.
‘‘He was, as they say, larger than life and we’ll remember him,’’ Hawks chairman Peter Bahlmann told the Mercury during this week.
‘‘We know Tyson’s teammates, coaches and everyone involved with the Hawks will band together and provide support to Tyson at this sad and difficult time.’’
The Hawks have rallied closely around their 24-year-old teammate.
‘‘All of us feel for him,’’ forward Glen Saville said.
‘‘It’s up to us to support him as much as we can.’’
A funeral for Kon will be held on Wednesday at 10am at Hansen and Cole, Kembla Grange.
