In a frantic finish, German star Ina Yoko Teutenberg won the event, but Gilmore worked hard to ensure she crossed the line third.
Gilmore led during each of the four 22.53km laps, overcoming the 1.6km Manayunk wall climb and was content with the result.
“I am [content], given my lack of specific sprint training as I am still on way up from my injury,” she said.
“If I could only beat the world’s best sprinter once, I would love for it to be riding for Australia in London.’’
Gilmore said the race was perfect preparation for London’s Olympic circuit, because it was a similar style of course.
The Australian road cycling team will be announced in the next fortnight.
