Coastwide Civil co-founder Gary Rogers said he "couldn't be happier" the company had been awarded the tender, which would provide 80 direct jobs.
"It is a shot in the arm ... it means our skilled staff will have local work, which is magnificent," Mr Rogers said.
His connection with the area goes back many years, and that includes the section of Shellharbour his company is about to start work on.
"I've been in the workforce 57 years and down Boollwarroo Parade, where it is cleaned out now, is where I used to tip out the rubbish," he said.
"[This project] is a wonderful revised look at the whole area."
In recent years Coastwide Civil has worked on projects including Port Kembla's new tug berth facility, projects at Port Botany, the permanent entrance to Lake Illawarra and more recently on projects in Townsville and Gladstone.
