The incident occurred outside housing commission units in Myuna Way about 9.30pm.
According to police, a 33-year-old man got into a physical confrontation with an unknown person on the street outside the units.
He received a single laceration to the front right side of his neck and was helped by neighbours before an ambulance arrived to take him to Wollongong Hospital.
The man’s injuries are not life-threatening and he is due to undergo surgery at Wollongong Hospital today.
Police are calling for anyone who may have seen the attack to call Wollongong Police on 42267899 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
