Twelve is the magical number for birthday boys

Twins Jackson and Harrison McBeath will always consider their 12th birthday a special milestone.

After all, not everyone can say they turned 12 on the 12/12/12.

The numerical quirk of the calendar is somewhat of a novelty for the Figtree pair, who joked with their St Therese Catholic Primary School mates there were no excuses about forgetting birthday presents on such a memorable date.

But what lies in store for them today is a point of contention between the two, who disagree on the significance of the recurrent 12s.

For Jackson, who first pointed out the coincidence to his mum a few years ago, turning 12 on the 12/12/12 is a good omen.

"When I realised it I thought it would be pretty awesome when it happens ... so I think it will be a lucky day," Jackson said.

Harrison is not so sure.

"I don't believe in luck," he said.

"I think our friends are going to annoy us about it a bit. They'll all come up to us and say the same thing."

Despite Harrison's scepticism, he said he and Jackson were fortunate enough to receive iPads from their parents as a special birthday gift.

He was also hoping to save any birthday money to buy himself a guitar.

Their mum Lucy, who plans on buying a lottery ticket for each of the boys today, says the day will be something they remember for the rest of their lives.

"We're going to head to the harbour with some paddleboards and a few mates from school and have a bit of a get-together down there, which should be a lot of fun," she said.
