Police and fire crews were called to the normally peaceful street about 10am and found the van had crashed into the house, damaging two garage roller doors and a brick pillar.
Arthur Guluk was inside when he heard the crash. He rushed out to find the driver shaken but uninjured.
After a frantic phone call, property owner Stan Guluk rushed home from work to survey the scene.
After finding son Arthur safe in the front yard, his thoughts turned to wife Stella, who he found to be in shock.
"I'm just glad she was in the backyard and not the garage," he said.
Stan Guluk said the van had been parked in his steep driveway when the incident occurred.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Dapto and Wollongong spent the morning working to stabilise the structure.
