Billycart derby snappers in battle for prizes

A billycarting revival at Port Kembla last month brought racing rivalries to the fore; now it's time for the battle of the photographers.

More than 200 cameras captured the return of the Port Kembla Billycart Derby to Wentworth Street on November 17, after a 25-year absence.

Event organisers had created a photography competition to ensure interest among camera club members and hobbyists.

Event organiser Dulcie Dal Molin, an accredited judge with the Federation of

Camera Clubs NSW, said photographers were drawn by the challenge and the day out.

"It was an absolutely different event and very challenging to get an image with the speed the super carts were doing," she said.

"The [winning photo] has to stand out from the crowd. It should have action, emotion, interaction with the competitors."

The acquisitive competition offers prizes of $1000, $500 and $250.

Mail entries close on Friday; hand deliveries will be accepted at Red Point Artists Gallery, 100 Wentworth Street, on December 29 between 10am and 2pm.

Entry forms and more details are available on the Red Point Artists' Association website.
